After 35 Mom Alyssa Thaxton delivered baby boy, Hudson Ray, at age 35. After two miscarriages and ten years of trying to conceive, she delivered Hudson via c-section on February 23, 2015 at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia and borderline HELLP syndrome.
Alyssa’s journey began 10 years ago when she had her first miscarriage at the age of 26. It was very early, but devastating nevertheless. After the miscarriage, she underwent three intrauterine inseminations (IUIs), none of which were successful. A fertility work-up revealed that she and her husband were both capable of conceiving; it just wasn’t happening.
In May 2013 at the age of 34, Alyssa suffered yet another miscarriage. She was then scheduled for an exploratory laporoscopy in September 2013 to see if there was anything wrong internally. The week before she was supposed to go in for surgery, she started getting very sick and was treated as an outpatient for bronchitis. Unfortunately, it kept getting worse and she eventually drove herself to the hospital. In the ER she was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. Since she had failed outpatient treatment she was admitted to the hospital and 30 days later she woke up.
After waking, Alyssa was told that her white blood count was so low that her body was not able to fight off the infection. She was placed in a medically induced coma with a ventilator to assist her breathing. During that time her kidneys failed and she was placed on dialysis. While she was on the ventilator, she experienced several complications. However, being the strong-willed person that she is, Alyssa fought through it and made a full recovery.
After her recovery, her Ob/Gyn suggested waiting at least 6 months to attempt getting pregnant. She had also decided to go ahead and proceed with the laparoscopy that was planned before she got sick. Six months later she had the procedure, which went well. Alyssa was diagnosed with severe endometriosis, which was treated at the time of the laparoscopy. Two weeks after the procedure, she was pregnant!
Because of her complications with pneumonia and kidney failure, Alyssa’s pregnancy was not easy. She was on bed rest for two months before delivering her perfect redheaded son, Hudson Ray, via c-section at 37 weeks. She also developed preeclampsia and borderline HELLP syndrome.
Alyssa and her husband are getting ready to celebrate their 4 year anniversary!
Congrats, Alyssa! What an incredible story!
